Description
X-Gal (5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-b-D-galactopyranoside) is a substrate of b-galactosidase, a gene product of the lac operon in E. Coli. X-Gal included in bacterial medium will be hydrolyzed by ß-galactosidase to produce indoxyl, a colormetric indicator of the activity of the lac operon.
